CA Seguros App (In-Car)

Android Auto & Android Automotive OS

The first Portuguese insurance app integrated with Android Auto and Android Automotive OS.

Bringing insurance services to the infotainment systems os the cars

CA Seguros for Android Auto & Automotive OS is an in-vehicle app that makes core insurance services available directly from the car’s infotainment system.

As the first insurance company in Portugal to offer services through this new context, CA Seguros can now support drivers with nearby branches, travel assistance and policy information without relying on a smartphone.

DXspark partnered with CA Seguros to design and develop the app, from concept to deployment in compatible vehicles.

Challenge

CA Seguros & DXspark wanted to explore how in-vehicle technology could be used to bring insurance services closer to drivers, in a safe and contextual way.

The ambition was to create an application for Android Auto & Automotive OS, this one a native operating system embedded in the vehicle.

Key challenges included:

    • Designing an experience tailored to the constraints and opportunities of the in-car environment.
    • Ensuring a safe UX, secure authentication and access to customer data in a shared device context (the vehicle)
    • Proposing a concept compelling enough for CA Seguros to adopt as an innovation initiative, even before the mass adoption of in-car apps in vehicles in Portugal.

From concept proposal to adopted innovation

DXspark proposed the concept and led the end-to-end development of the app, treating it as a strategic innovation project.

The collaboration followed a heavily research and development to demonstrate the potential of Android Auto and Android Automotive OS for the insurance sector.

Unlike a traditional client-initiated project, the idea for an Android Automotive app was originally brought forward by DXspark.

We identified an opportunity to position CA Seguros as a first mover in the Portuguese market and presented a concrete proposal to the client.

Once validated, the project we moved into delivery with a dedicated team composed of:

    • Project Manager
    • Design Team
    • Android Development Team

This specialised team allowed fast iteration while maintaining quality and compliance with both Android guidelines and CA Seguros requirements.

This required a careful balance between usefulness and safety, respecting the constraints of in-car interactions.

Key features include:

    • Listing CA Automóvel insurance policies and selecting the one associated with the vehicle in context
    • Showing nearby Crédito Agrícola branches on the map, with navigation handoff to the car’s navigation app.
    • Sharing the vehicle’s location with CA Seguros in case of any incident
    • Requesting travel assistance and consulting the history of assistance requests.

The experience leverages the strengths of in-car apps, access to vehicle context and native integration while keeping interactions focused and easy to use while parked or in safe conditions.

Results

With this project, CA Seguros became the first insurance company in Portugal to offer services through Android Auto & Android Automotive OS, reinforcing its position as an innovative player in the market.

Even though the base of Android Automotive OS vehicles in Portugal is still growing and early adoption numbers are naturally modest, the initiative has:

  • Positioned CA Seguros as an early adopter of in-car digital services
  • Created a concrete foundation for future services that leverage connected car capabilities
  • Enabled a new, contextual touchpoint with customers directly from the vehicle.

For insurers and automotive ecosystem players, this case shows how DXspark can:

  • Explore emerging platforms such as Android Automotive OS and turn them into concrete, usable products
  • Design experiences tailored to highly specific contexts like the in-car environment
  • Act as an innovation partner, investing upfront to validate concepts and helping clients move first in their markets.

This project shows how a focused, context-aware application can open the door to new digital channels and future services in the connected vehicle space.
